Raliegh and Stanhope
I'm not sure if Stanhope actually likes Raleigh or not? Like when Raleigh is explaining to Osborne how he and Stanhope were "terrific pals," he seems certain Stanhope will be delighted to see him. However when they do, to me, it seems to have the opposite effect. Stanhope seems to dislike seeing Raleigh. Maybe its because Stanhope just doesn't like him or that he is just very surprised and doesn't want one of his "Pals" getting hurt?
Whats with Hardy?
Whats with Hardy? Through out the whole play we only see him once and yet he seems when we first meet him as if he is going to be one the main characters of the play. Maybe R.C. Sherriff added him into that first scene to add some humor such as when he starts blabbering on about "earwig races" but surely this could have been done by another character who we see more of in the play such as Trotter. Other people may disagree but i find him POINTLESS.
Setting the scene
At the start of the play "Journeys End" the scene is set by a detailed description of the dug out in one of the trenches. This is good because if your just reading the play it really helps you to vividly imagine what the stage would look like.
